Gold worth Rs 58 lakh and electronic goods seized at Chennai airport

CHENNAI: Customs officials have seized 1.38 kg of gold worth Rs 58.04 lakh and electronic goods, including latest iPhone 13 smartphones, from two passengers at Chennai international airport.
Based on intelligence, customs officials intercepted two men who arrived here in an Emirates flight (EK-542) from Dubai. Their check-in baggage was subjected to scanning.The officials found 24 gold cut bits -- totalling 1.38 kg with value of Rs 58.04 lakh -- concealed by wrapping in black adhesive tape around laptop chargers.
Further, iPhone 13 smartphones and refurbished laptops were also seized. Both the passengers were arrested under the Customs Act,1962.
